On January 29th, Sunny Hill performed their latest hit “The Grasshopper Song” on SBS‘s ‘Inkigayo‘ with special guest, IU! IU was filling in for Jang Hyun, the only male member of Sunny Hill who also enlisted in the military recently.
Sunny Hill’s Kota thanked her LOEN Entertainment labelmate by sharing this adorable picture on her Twitter. Kota gushed, “IU IU IU ♥ Thanks for helping us out today ♥ Cutie ‘ant IU‘ ♥“
Kota was referring to the suit IU wore for their special stage, originally worn by Jang Hyun’s ‘ant character’ in the MV for “The Grasshopper Song”. It also looks like the labelmates got together for a last minute Lunar New Year’s greeting by holding out oranges, a traditional Lunar New Year’s gift.
Fans commented, “I saw your performance! You guys should collaborate more often!” and “Ring-a-ring-a-ring~~ Sunny Hill, you were amazing tonight.”

Singer IU has become the new model for makeup brand, ‘The Saem‘.
On January 30th, a representative from ‘The Saem’ stated, “IU is much beloved and is even called the nation’s little sister. Her clear skin is highly coveted by girls, and so we believe that she will raise awareness about our brand to a larger audience”.
IU also commented, “After turning 20 this year, I became more interested in makeup, so I’m really happy to become a model. I’m going to work hard to promote ‘The Saem’ and will show my fans a good side to myself.”

Some pictures of IU in front of her own poster have caused quite a bit of chatter.
On January 26th, LOEN Entertainment posted two pictures on their official Twitter and wrote, “Here’s some photographic evidence from IU in Japan! Please send IU lots of encouraging words as she takes her first step with her Japanese debut.”
IU can be seen wearing a red skirt as she poses in front of her poster. Additionally, LOEN posted a shot of her squatting and autographing the poster as well. Netizens who saw the images commented, “IU, fighting in Japan too!” and “We’re rooting for you.”
With the end of her first showcase in Japan, IU plans to release her single “Good Day” on March 21st.

Some photographs of IU in Japan have got fans talking.
On the January 28th, photos of IU in Japan appeared on an online community under a thread titled, “IU in Asakusa, Toori no Still Cut”. The photographs showed a girlish and innocent IU as she enjoyed herself in Japan. In one picture, IU can be seen posing with a sand writing she did saying, “IU desu!” (“I’m IU!”).
Netizens revealed all sorts of different reactions. “Have fun in Japan!”, “I couldn’t tell if this was gravure or not,” and “The more I look at these, the more charming you become”.
[TL Note: Gravure is a popular industry in Japan. It can vary from normal photoshoots, to bikini shoots. Basically, gravure tends to be high quality photos of women that are professionally taken. I can’t really explain it well in English since…gravure is gravure ^^;]

Singer IU recently held her debut Japanese showcase, and she’s opened up about how nervous she felt prior to performing her famous ’3-high-note’.
On January 26th, IU guested on a live Japanese TV talk show, where she introduced herself to the public and shared some behind-the-scenes stories from her showcase.
IU began, “I was nervous after hearing that we will be starting a showcase in Japan, but I was relieved after a lot of fans showed [up]… I was actually worried for the 3-high-note part because I was in such a bad condition that day, but I felt great after seeing all the fans.”
On the 24th, IU opened two showcases at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo and pulled off the 3-high-note boosts from “Good Day” perfectly.
Commenting on her ability to hit high notes, IU said, “I’m actually not that good with high notes. I was never confident with hitting the high notes [to begin with], but I was able to do so with the help of songwriters.” She joked, “I’ve always worked hard on singing, since I’m not good at dancing.”
She then added an afterthought, “But in truth, my dancing isn’t that bad,” causing laughter to erupt on the set.
For her first live shoot in Japan, IU put all her effort into speaking only in Japanese for the 35-minute session. However, when she had to use difficult words or phrases, she asked if she could speak Korean and received help from her translator.
Carrying on with her success in Korea, IU has finally breached into Japan and will be releasing her debut single “Good Day” on March 21st.

The co-ed group has been showcasing strong performances with “The Grasshopper Song”, and so fans were upset to learn that member Jang Hyun would be withdrawing from the group to fulfil his mandatory military duties.

The two looked like a trending couple in matching tees and jeans, but it seems as though Yoo Seung Ho may have a small crush on the singer off camera.

The national Sister and brother IU and Yoo Seung Ho were chosen to be models for casual clothing brand G by GUess. 2012 spring/summer collection. The two were chosen for the popular brand and they recently went to Gyeonggi to have a photoshoot with the "modern/mainstream" concept.
IU and Yoo Seung Ho were chosen because of their young and youthful image and though the two were not used to being paired with the opposite gender, it was a challenged at first and they were shy but they managed to pull it off in the end.
The staff has high expectations for the two as they have the cool and youthful energy and the staff thinks they are perfect for the new collection of the clothing's brand. Meanwhile, posters and more promotional ads will be released this coming february for the collection.

Has singer IU found her doppelganger?
On January 23rd, an online community bulletin posted a picture of IU and child actress Jung Da Bin, drawing the attention of netizens. Comments included, “Their side profile is exactly the same!!“, “I thought it was a meeting of the past and present!“, and “I look forward to see how Da Bin grows“.
The picture was revealed to be a still cut from the SBS TV Lunar New Year special ‘Actor Pop Star‘, scheduled to air on January 24th at 9:40am KST. Jung Da Bin will be transforming into ‘little IU’ and performing a rendition of IU’s “You and I“.
Not surprisingly, it was reported that IU, who will be a judge on the program, showed favoritism towards Jung Da Bin.

IU was up against B.E.G's Narsha and Girls' Day's Sojin on the KBS New Year Special 'Crown Princess Project' which was aired on Jan 23rd, but finally emerged as the chosen Crown Princess on the show.The Queen, Park Misun, said, "This is actually a question King Youngjo himself set in the past, when choosing the Queen. 'What is the tallest hill, the deepest thing in the world and your favourite flower?'"
IU replied,"The tallest hill is the barley hump (or farm hardship period). There's nothing more difficult than being in poverty. My parents have always worked hard, so we lived well, but we had difficult times too. The kind of feelings I had then were, 'Wow even the people I love are growing further away from me.'"
"I think the deepest thing in the world is the hearts of my parents and my favourite flower is the lily. Its fragrance is unrivalled and similarly, I would let to set myself apart from the rest too," she explained.
The rest of the cast members were in agreement of IU's honest remarks and Park Misun said, "In actual fact, at that time, Queen Jeongsun replied at the age of 15 that the tallest hill is the barley hump, the deepest thing in the world is the feelings of the masses, and her favourite flower was the cotton flower."
Also, at the second checkpoint, they had to recite the names of up to 27 kings of the Chosun dynasty (in order) and IU managed to do it perfectly from start to end, shocking the rest who were present. She also sang a modified version of Good Day, as well as dance her 'buffering' dance to score points.
When the gag man Kim Jiho arrived at the studio as the Crown Prince, IU kept laughing and couldn't bring herself to raise her head to face reality.

Singer IU will be sacrificing her Lunar New Year weekend to make her official debut in Japan.
On January 24th, the singer will be making her official debut by holding a showcase-like event ‘IU Japan Premium Special Live‘ at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo.
In order for this to happen, the singer must give up eating traditional rice cake soup (tteokguk) and time with her family for Lunar New Year to fly to Japan on the 23rd.
Her agency LOEN Entertainment stated, “It wasn’t an easy decision for her to give up her holiday for the Japanese showcase, but she will be flying into Japan on the 23rd for her performance rehearsal among other preparations.”
The agency predicts that there will be a large crowd of fans as well as reporters that will be awaiting IU’s arrival at the airport. They have not revealed the exact time of her arrival, but she will begin preparing for her early take off in the morning.
IU will be the youngest Korean singer to hold an event at the Bunkamura Orchard Hall. This is not a large stadium or a music performance hall, but rather a classy and professional venue. IU is known in Japan as an extremely talented singer with broad vocal range, and it seems that Japan is kindly allowing her to display her talent at the best theater possible.
After her showcase, IU will be releasing her debut single in Japan in early February and fans are curious to know how the Japanese fans will respond to Korea’s sweetheart.

IU returned to the stage on KBS’s ‘Music Bank‘ for the January 20th episode with a special treat just for fans!
During a special ‘Music Bank’ segment titled ‘Take Out Music‘, IU traveled to a local university, where she practiced with the orchestra there to put on a special stage for “You & I“!
The stunning performance comes with both a fully-equipped orchestra, as well as a special stage design.

Following the success of her title song, 'You and I', IU said, "Next time, I'll take on the challenge of bossanova, or jazz even."
She will be holding her Japan showcase at Orchard Hall on Jan 24th. "We received lovecalls from Japan and I'm preparing for it with my mind at ease. I'm not going to Japan with the mentality that I'm out to accomplish anything, but simply with a tranquil mind," spoke IU with maturity. She seems to have no intentions to come out on top as the 'Gayo queen' in the Japanese music industry. We asked, "Is there really nothing troubling you at all?" Despite the burden of her overall performance in Japan weighing down on her, she looked calm and relaxed.
"There isn't any great significance attached to my Japanese debut. I think of it as merely standing on a different stage. I'm making preparations with the mentality that I want to enjoy myself, rather than to get 1st place. When I debuted in Korea, nobody expected me to do well either. After about 2 or 3 years after my debut, people started to know me, so won't it be the same in Japan too? If I don't do well straight away right now, it doesn't mean I won't be able to become a famous singer. Well if things don't go well, I'll just find fault with someone (Laughs)."

The vocal group consisting of 3 members performed on stage with IU at the 21st Seoul Music Awards on Jan 19th, as special guests during the acapella version of 'Good Day'.
Red Soul's leader, Hwang Taeik, expressed, "From the very first moment we met IU until the very last moment when we got off the stage, we felt really nervous. Be it during rehearsals, or the actual stage, she looked really focused and on top of that, really pretty."

IU participated as a judge on the singing auditions show for actors, SBS New Year Special 'Actor POP-STAR'. On the show, she was forthright with her opinions and gave witty comments to the contestants.
She did not hold back with her comments for every contestant, yet rounded off her comments kindly, creating a warm atmosphere during the filming. One contestant in particular, received a lot of love from IU and it was none other than the child actress, Jung Dabin, reason being that she performed IU's "You and I" for the contest.
She sang the song as well as followed the choreography perfectly, showing great enthusiasm. But she expressed, "What if I end up in last place?" In reply, IU showed the girl her full support and said, "As the judge, I'll help you so that you won't end up in last place." "You look really pretty."
"After watching Dabin's performance, I think I should hurry and come up with my follow-up song. I can sense you ulterior motives," said IU reproachfully, although she didn't mean it as a criticism. In response to IU's affections, Jung Dabin said, "To sing and dance at the same time, IU-unni is such a prodigy.'
Also, IU told actor Kim Busun, "Your expressiveness gave me goosebumps" and Gong Hyungjin, "As a singer, it got me thinking, what makes a good stage?"

After the 1st round of discussions, it was a close fight between Super Junior and IU. The judging panel then went through another round of intense discussions before finally deciding that Super Junior was the winner of the Daesang award.
Many of the judges expressed their reasons behind the decision, "The main topic last year was the K-wave spreading worldwide. As the forerunners of the globalisation of K-pop, Super Junior has been a big influence in the music industry. The combined sales figures of their 5th album and repackaged album also put them in the lead."
"IU's 'Good Day' was a big hit after it was released in 2010 and climbed to the peak of the music industry. In 2011, her song 'You and I' was a big hit once again and she has become a force to be reckoned with that deserves our respect." "It's just that the K-pop wave this year brought the votes slightly more towards Super Junior," they added. The majority opinion is that this year's decision was more difficult to make than in previous years.

They both look great! Jiyeon looks sexy and IU looks innocent ^^ Don't you agree?
On January 16th, the variety show held a special talk corner called ’Steal IU’s Heart’, in which Joo Hyun, Jung Bo Suk, Park Sang Min, and Kim Joo Hyuk had to hold a ‘meeting‘ with IU and have her pick who she liked best.
Prior to that, however, IU was first required to make a ranking of who she did not want to see at a ‘meeting’. The young star eventually chose Jung Bo Suk and explained, ”If someone is too good-looking, I feel like they can never be mine.”
She also added, “Because of the drama ‘Giant‘ and the character ‘Jo Pil Yeon’, you seem scary to me.”
