I think some people were waiting for this translation, so here you go. The IU bits.


(On gaining inspiration for his works)

For IU's "You and I", the idea for the theme came up before the song itself. A friend told me, why not we go with a concept of a strange child standing at the crossroads between adolescence and adulthood? The instrumental introduction would evoke feelings of a Tim Burton movie and we wanted the visuals in the MV to achieve that effect too. I didn't selfishly keep the idea to myself, but proposed it to everyone instead, so I'm not sure what people were saying about it after that.

(On getting vibes of "Good Day" within "You and I")

Some say it's completely different from "Good Day", but you could also say it's a kind of extension from that song. On some level, it's a kind of strategy, since we felt that it wouldn't be good to have too much of a transformation at this juncture. Basically, we thought the more easy-listening sort of songs like "Good Day" and "Nagging" had more mass appeal.

(On the inclusion of many featurings of famous singer-songwriters from the 90s in the album)

Basically, IU really likes those singer-songwriters from the 90s and so do I. I wanted to bring back that nervous feeling of unwrapping the scents and albums from that time, so we decided to make it a regular album for IU this time. Actually, since the trend is to go digital nowadays, putting the title track aside, we could have released the rest of the songs 3 at a time. It was between being rational and economical. But in IU's case, we decided to do the opposite and release the album as a whole instead of having pre-releases of digital singles. It turned out pretty well too.
